Commemorating Santri Day, Rector Emphasizes Islamic Boarding Schools as Authentic Products of Indonesian Society and Nation-Building
Jakarta, October 22, 2025. Today, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, is celebrated as National Santri Day. As in previous years, a commemorative ceremony was held on Santri Day, this time at the Student Center field on Campus 1 of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
Serving as the ceremony's supervisor is the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA., PhD, with ceremony participants consisting of faculty members, educational staff, and students.
According to the Rector, the designation of October 22 as National Santri Day is not merely a symbolic tribute. Santri Day is a substantive recognition of the pesantren ecosystem, which has long been the main bastion of moderate Islam—a tolerant, inclusive, and balanced face of Islam that serves as a unifying force for a diverse nation such as Indonesia. Moreover, pesantren are an authentic product of Indonesian society.
The Vice Dean of General Administration of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Erika Amelia, who was also present at the ceremony, said that Santri Day is a form of respect for the founders and educators in Islamic schools, especially Islamic boarding schools. “Santri Day is a form of respect from us as the Islamic campus academic community for the founders and educators in Islamic schools, especially Islamic boarding schools,” said Erika, along with the head of department and other FEB lecturers.
Nationally, Santri Day commemorative ceremonies were also held in various schools/madrasas and other institutions throughout Indonesia. (AC)
