Promoting Timely Graduation with Integrity: Development Economics Study Program of FEB UIN Jakarta Holds Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Research and Publication
JAKARTA — The Development Economics Study Program (EP) at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, successfully held an academic workshop themed “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence for Research and Publication: Accelerating Final Projects and Reputable Scientific Publications Ethically and with Integrity” on Friday, October 23, 2026. The event took place at the Theater Room on the 5th Floor of the FEB Building, Jalan Ibnu Sina, and was attended by hundreds of Development Economics students, particularly those currently working on their final thesis projects.
The event was officially opened by the Head of the Development Economics Study Program, Dr. Arief Fitrijanto, S.Si., M.Si., accompanied by the Program Secretary, Dr. Rr. Tini Anggraeni, M.Si. In his opening remarks, Dr. Arief emphasized the importance of adopting technology wisely within the academic environment to accelerate students' study duration.
"This workshop on utilizing artificial intelligence for research and publication is dedicated to our Development Economics students with the hope of encouraging timely graduation while maintaining high academic quality," stated Arief.
Moderated by Bani, the core session featured Muhammad Abdillah NS. Pua Upa, S.E., M.Si. (an AI practitioner and Development Economics lecturer) as the main speaker, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on AI-Powered Academic Writing.
During his presentation, Abdillah emphasized the fundamental concept that AI serves as an academic assistant, not a replacement for researchers. AI is designed to assist with technical processes and acceleration, while critical thinking, scientific decision-making, and academic responsibility remain fully in the hands of the students and researchers.
The speaker's detailed presentation covered the research roadmap from conception to publication:
-
Idea Exploration and Research Gaps: Utilizing AI to develop research topics, narrow down scopes, and discover novelties from previous literature.
-
Proposal and Thesis Framework Construction: Optimizing AI to structure thesis chapters (Chapters I–III) as well as organizing and summarizing reputable literature.
-
Data Analysis and Methodology: Leveraging AI to understand quantitative/qualitative methodologies, assist in drafting analysis code (such as Stata, R, Python), and accurately interpret statistical output results.
-
Editing and Article Conversion: Techniques for polishing academic writing, refining argumentation flows, and strategizing the conversion of a thesis into a draft scientific article ready for submission to reputable journals (SINTA/Scopus).
-
Effective Prompting Techniques and Academic Ethics: Highlighting the importance of constructing clear, structured prompts alongside a strict emphasis on academic integrity—avoiding data fabrication, fake citations, and plagiarism, while emphasizing the necessity of verifying all AI outputs.
The entire event concluded with an interactive discussion session, a symbolic presentation of a token of appreciation (souvenir) to the speaker, and a group photo session involving the leadership, speaker, and student participants. Through this workshop, the Development Economics Study Program of FEB UIN Jakarta hopes students will be better prepared and motivated to complete their final projects on time without compromising research quality or academic ethics.
